The Friends of Van Buren State Park Inc. is a 501 ( c ) 3 non profit organization and is community-based and all volunteer. Our monthly meetings are held on the 3rd Thursday of the month at 7:30 PM at the Allen Township Hall on State Route 613, Van Buren Ohio. Meetings are open to everyone to learn more about the group and who share in our goals. We encourage you to attend a meeting and find out how you can support the park.

The success of future projects and keeping Van Buren State Park a state park hinges on the public-private partnerships of people joining this organization. By your volunteering and participation in events at the park you can help shape the future of the park and safe guard its continued existence. You can have a voice in the planning and development of the park. An example is the decision of the ODNR to move the family campground.    The Horsemen’s Council and the Friends of the park took up petitions against moving the family campground but the ODNR paid no attention to public opinion and made the move over the publics objections. We feel with a larger membership and more participation by the public this move may have been avoided.

In 2006 the ODNR closed the family campground by the lake and built a new family campground at the East end of the park near the horsemen’s campground. The move of the campground upset many people who regularly camped there. The new campground is very nice and we encourage you to check it out. We also encourage you to join the FVBSP. All monies we receive will be spent only at Van Buren State Park; there is power in numbers. The officers of Friends of Van Buren State Park, will do their best to convey your ideas, interest and grievances to park management and to be involved in any future plans for the park. We invite your participation and comments to improve Van Buren State Park. Only by having the users of the park involved in planning can mistakes like those in the past be avoided and the recreational expectations of our park users be exceeded. Thus reaching the goal of our mission statement.
