It was cold, windy and snowing when we sat up the canopy and scattered plastic Easter eggs filled with candy. With the eggs all scattered we retreated to our cars to warm up and wait to see if anyone would brave the cold.  Much to our surprise an estimated 50 kids ignored the cold and were eager to gather up the eggs.  From the youngest toddler to some teens they rushed around the grounds and gathered up the over 2,000 plastic eggs. It warmed up the volunteers just watching the kids have so much fun. Special prizes were handed out and many stuffed toys also. I apologize to some folks who arrived after things were about over. Because of the cold we started early and a few missed out. We made sure they went home with some candy and not empty handed.

Clara and Bill Pargeon put this Easter egg hunt on every year and deserve our thanks. When you see them, pat them on the back and say thanks.

Also I want to thank Ron Bland for providing the hot chocolate and doughnuts. The hot chocolate was really appreciated do to the cold. Ron also brought the miniature ponies along for the kids to enjoy.

Of course we want to thank all the volunteers for their help. At Van Buren State Park it’s the volunteers that make things happen.

Clara says she will do it again next year. Let’s hope for better weather.

Thanks again.

Tom
