Memorial
weekend at Van Buren State Park found the horsemen's
campground full to capacity and the family
campground a third full.
After
everyone got set up and settled on their campsites
it was time for the fun to begin. Friday evening
found lots of folks enjoying a movie under the
stars, complete with popcorn and refreshments.
Saturday
morning we awoke to the sound of rain falling on
tents and campers so everyone seemed to sleep in a
little longer. The rain was a welcome site for area
farmers. By lunch time the rain had stopped and the
fun began. At the nature center the kids had a great
time making bird feeders and feeding the reptiles.
Others enjoyed fishing at the lake, hiking and trail
riding or just relaxing at camp. Saturday
evening folks were enjoying a leisurely canoe trip
around the lake. You can tell by their smiling faces
in the photo that they had a great time and I think
they will be back for more. We need to find more
canoes!
Sunday
the equestrians got a chance to show off their
riding skills at a fun show at the arena area. They
demonstrated such skills as balancing an egg on a
spoon while riding, a ribbon race and riding
blindfolded! They had lots of fun and finished off
with a water balloon fight. A fun way to cool off on
a warm day.
Monday it
was time for one last hike, trail riding or trying
to catch a big fish at the lake. All to soon it was
time to pack up and go home, time sure flies when
you're having fun. I hope they take home with them
some great memories of a fun time at Van Buren State
Park and maybe even the names of some new found
friends. I know I had some folks ask for membership
forms for the Friends of Van Buren State Park. They
will be a welcome addition to all the folks who are
helping us to make Van Buren State Park the Best
Little State Park in Ohio.
Thanks to all, see you again soon.
